Current Archer firmware has no shared default password: you create one the first time you log in. Very old firmware used admin / admin.

Popular TP-Link models

Defaults below apply to units as they ship. Hardware versions (v1, v2, v3…) of the same model can differ, so the sticker on your router is always the final word.

ModelIPUsernamePasswordType
Archer AX21 / AX1800 192.168.0.1 — set at first setup Wi-Fi 6
Archer AX55 / AX3000 192.168.0.1 — set at first setup Wi-Fi 6
Archer AXE75 192.168.0.1 — set at first setup Wi-Fi 6E
Archer A7 / C7 (older firmware) 192.168.0.1 admin admin Wi-Fi 5

How to log in to a TP-Link router

1. Connect to the router

Join the router’s Wi-Fi (default names look like TP-Link_XXXX and TP-Link_XXXX_5G) or connect with an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports, not the Internet/WAN port. On a phone, turn off cellular data during setup.

2. Open tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1

Type the address in the browser’s address bar, not a search box. If the name does not load, use the IP. If neither works, find the correct address in your device’s network details: on Windows run ipconfig and read "Default Gateway"; on a Mac open System Settings → Network → Details. Our 192.168.0.1 guide covers the address in depth.

3. Create or enter the admin password

On a new or freshly reset Archer, the first screen asks you to create an administrator password, then runs a quick setup wizard (time zone, connection type, Wi-Fi names). On later visits you enter that same password. Some models also let you sign in with a TP-Link ID for remote management through the Tether app.

Change the Wi-Fi password on a TP-Link

  1. Log in and open Wireless (on some firmware: Advanced → Wireless → Wireless Settings).
  2. Select the 2.4 GHz band and enter a new password.
  3. Repeat for 5 GHz (and 6 GHz on Wi-Fi 6E/7 models), or enable Smart Connect to use a single name.
  4. Choose WPA2/WPA3-Personal where available, otherwise WPA2-PSK (AES).
  5. Save. Every device will need the new password to reconnect.

More detail, including how to update the password on connected devices, is in our Wi-Fi password guide.

Deco mesh: managed from the app

Deco units do not have a traditional browser setup. The usual sequence is:

  1. Install the Deco app and sign in with (or create) a TP-Link ID.
  2. Connect the main Deco to your modem or ISP gateway with Ethernet and power it on.
  3. Follow the app to pick the connection type (dynamic IP for most US cable and fiber service, PPPoE for some DSL and fiber providers), the network name and the password.
  4. Add each additional Deco from the app, placing it roughly halfway between the main unit and the area with weak coverage.

If your ISP gateway also creates its own Wi-Fi network, either turn that Wi-Fi off or put the Deco system in Access Point mode so your devices are not split across two networks.

Common TP-Link problems

"Incorrect password" with a password you are sure about

Check whether you are typing the Wi-Fi password instead of the admin password, and whether Caps Lock is on. If you never created the admin password yourself, someone else (an installer or a previous owner) did. A factory reset is the only way to clear it.

Login page loads but internet does not work after setup

Most often the router’s WAN port is plugged into the wrong port on the modem or the modem has not released the old device yet. Power off the modem for a minute, then power on the modem first and the TP-Link second. Cable modems often only allow one connected router until they are restarted.

Deco unit shows offline

The satellite is usually too far from the main unit or blocked by appliances, mirrors or metal shelving. Move it closer, wait until the app shows it online, and then try a location between the two positions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default password for a TP-Link router?

On TP-Link Archer routers sold in recent years there is no shared default admin password. The first time you open tplinkwifi.net, the router asks you to create one. Older Archer models on old firmware (for example early Archer C7 units) used admin / admin. Do not confuse the admin password with the Wi-Fi password: the Wi-Fi password (often labeled "Wireless Password/PIN") is printed on the sticker and is only used to join the network. If you created an admin password and forgot it, the only way back in is a factory reset.

Why does tplinkwifi.net not load?

tplinkwifi.net is answered by the router itself, so it only works when your device is connected to that TP-Link router. It fails when you are on cellular data, on a different Wi-Fi network, connected through a VPN, or when your device uses a custom DNS service (such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8) that bypasses the router. The fix is to connect directly to the router and type the IP address instead, usually 192.168.0.1. If your TP-Link sits behind an ISP gateway, the router may have received a different address; check the gateway’s device list or your computer’s "default gateway" value.

How do I set up a TP-Link Deco mesh system?

Deco systems are set up from the Deco app (iOS and Android), not from a browser. Install the app, sign in with a TP-Link ID, connect the main Deco to your modem or ISP gateway with Ethernet, and follow the prompts to name the network and set the password. Add the other units from the app, one at a time. After setup you can also reach a limited web page at the main Deco’s address (often 192.168.68.1), but most settings, including parental controls and HomeShield, live in the app.

Can a TP-Link router replace my Xfinity, Spectrum or AT&T equipment?

A standard Archer router is only a router. It still needs a modem (cable/DOCSIS), a fiber ONT or a DSL gateway in front of it. With cable service such as Spectrum, you can usually plug the Archer into the ISP modem and use it as your main router. With an ISP combo gateway (Xfinity, AT&T, Verizon, Cox), you either put the gateway in bridge or passthrough mode, or run the TP-Link in Access Point mode to avoid double NAT. See our modem vs. router guide for the difference.

How do I factory reset a TP-Link router?

With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button (a pinhole on most Archer models) with a paperclip for about 10 seconds, until the LEDs change, then release. The router reboots with factory settings: the default Wi-Fi name and password from the label, and no admin password until you create a new one. Deco units have a reset pinhole on the bottom. All your settings are erased, so note any port forwarding or custom DNS first.
