router.asus.com Older ASUS models use 192.168.1.1. The factory login admin / admin must be changed during the setup wizard.

How to log in to an ASUS router
1. Connect your device
Use the router’s Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable to a LAN port (the yellow or numbered ports, not the WAN port). If you are behind an ISP gateway, make sure you are connected to the ASUS network, not the gateway’s.
2. Go to router.asus.com
If the name does not resolve, try 192.168.50.1, then
192.168.1.1. To find the exact address, check the "Default Gateway" in
your device’s network details.
3. Sign in or run the setup wizard
A new or reset router opens the Quick Internet Setup. It detects your connection type (automatic IP for most cable and fiber service in the US), then asks you to create the router login and the Wi-Fi name and password. On an already configured router you just enter the login you created. The ASUS Router app offers the same setup on a phone.
Set up AiMesh
- Set up the main router first and update its firmware.
- Reset the router you want to add as a node, power it on near the main router, and leave it unconfigured.
- On the main router, open the AiMesh tab in the web interface (or use the ASUS Router app) and search for nodes.
- Select the node and confirm. It reboots and joins the network with the same Wi-Fi name and password.
- Move the node to its final location, ideally with an Ethernet backhaul if your home has wiring.
Change the Wi-Fi password on ASUS
- Open Wireless → General.
- Select each band (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz where present), or use Smart Connect to manage them together.
- Set Authentication Method to WPA2/WPA3-Personal if all your devices support it, otherwise WPA2-Personal.
- Enter the new WPA Pre-Shared Key and click Apply.
To change the router login itself, go to Administration → System and edit the router login name and password.
Common ASUS problems
router.asus.com opens the ASUS website instead
Your device is not using the router for DNS, usually because of a VPN, a private DNS setting on Android, or a manually set DNS server. Disconnect the VPN or use the IP address directly.
Firmware update seems stuck
Do not unplug the router during an update. Give it several minutes. If it never comes back, ASUS provides a Firmware Restoration utility and rescue-mode instructions on its support site for recovering a router that failed mid-update.
Double NAT warnings behind an ISP gateway
If your ASUS router sits behind an Xfinity, AT&T or Verizon gateway, both devices route traffic, which can break gaming and port forwarding. Put the ISP gateway in bridge or passthrough mode, or switch the ASUS to Access Point mode under Administration → Operation Mode.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ASUS router IP 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.50.1?
It depends on the model. Most ASUS routers released in roughly the last several years, including RT-AX, ROG Rapture and ZenWiFi models, default to 192.168.50.1. Many older models, such as the RT-AC68U and RT-N series, default to 192.168.1.1. ASUS chose the 50.x range partly to avoid clashing with ISP gateways that use 192.168.1.1. You do not need to remember which one you have: router.asus.com works on any ASUS router you are connected to, and the label on the bottom lists the default address.
What is the default ASUS router username and password?
Before setup, ASUS routers use admin / admin. The Quick Internet Setup wizard that runs on first login requires you to choose a new login name and password, so on any router that has been set up, admin / admin will not work. If you forgot the credentials you chose, you will need a factory reset to set new ones.
What is AiMesh?
AiMesh is ASUS’s mesh feature built into its router firmware. It lets you link two or more AiMesh-compatible ASUS routers (or ZenWiFi units) into one network with a single Wi-Fi name. The main router handles settings; the other units become nodes. It is a practical way to reuse an older ASUS router as a satellite when you upgrade. ASUS publishes the list of compatible models on its website, and you can add nodes from the web interface (AiMesh tab) or the ASUS Router app.
What is the difference between ASUS RT, ZenWiFi and ROG Rapture?
They share the same core firmware (ASUSWRT) and the same login process. RT models are the standard router line. ZenWiFi is the mesh line, sold in packs of two or three units for larger homes. ROG Rapture and TUF Gaming models are aimed at gamers, with extra QoS and game-traffic features. All of them support AiMesh, and on most models you can mix families in one AiMesh network.
Can I install ASUSWRT-Merlin on my ASUS router?
Many ASUS models support ASUSWRT-Merlin, a community-maintained firmware based on ASUS’s own code that adds features such as more detailed VPN options and scripting. You install it from Administration → Firmware Upgrade using a file downloaded from the Merlin project site, which lists supported models. It is aimed at advanced users; if you only need reliable Wi-Fi, the stock firmware is fine. You can switch back to official firmware the same way.
