You are asked to replace the default admin password on first login. The Wi-Fi name and password are on the gateway label and are usually managed in the Cox app.
About the Panoramic Wifi gateway
Panoramic Wifi is Cox's rented all-in-one gateway: a DOCSIS cable modem, router and Wi-Fi access point in one box, built by different manufacturers over the years. It can be extended with Panoramic Wifi Pods for larger homes. Cox updates the hardware periodically, so check the label for your exact model. The sign-in method below applies across current models.
| Credential | Where to find it | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Admin tool password | Default password, then whatever you set | Signing in at 192.168.0.1 |
| Wi-Fi network name and password | Gateway label, Cox app | Connecting devices |
| Cox User ID | Your Cox account | Cox app and cox.com |
How to log in to a Cox gateway
1. Connect to the gateway
Use the gateway Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. If you have Pods, you can be connected through a Pod; the gateway is still reachable at the same address.
2. Go to 192.168.0.1
Type 192.168.0.1 into the browser address bar. If the page does not open,
check that you are not on a VPN or mobile data, and see
can't access router.
3. Sign in with admin
Enter admin and the admin tool password. On a gateway that was never
customized it is password; you will be asked to choose a new one.
4. Know what the admin tool controls
The local admin tool shows gateway and connection status and holds options such as bridge mode, DHCP and firewall settings on many models. Wi-Fi settings may be shown as managed by the app. Labels and available sections vary by gateway and firmware.
Managing Wi-Fi in the Cox app
Cox folded the old Panoramic Wifi app into its main Cox app. Signed in with your Cox User ID you can typically:
- View and change the Wi-Fi network name and password
- See connected devices, create profiles and pause internet access
- Set up port forwarding on supported gateways
- Manage Panoramic Wifi Pods and run troubleshooting
For general steps that apply to any router, see how to change your Wi-Fi password, and for opening ports see port forwarding.
Bridge mode and your own equipment
If you want to use your own router or mesh system, put the Panoramic gateway in bridge mode so it acts only as a modem. That avoids double NAT. In bridge mode the gateway Wi-Fi turns off and app features that depend on the gateway stop working.
Alternatively, return the gateway and use a customer-owned cable modem that Cox lists as compatible, with your own router behind it. Check DOCSIS 3.1 support for faster plans and voice support if you have Cox Voice.
Common Cox gateway problems
Wi-Fi settings revert
If a change made locally disappears, the gateway is syncing settings from your Cox account. Make the change in the app.
No internet
Restart the gateway from the app or by unplugging power for 30 seconds. Check that the coax cable is tight at both ends. Check the app for outage notices.
Weak signal in some rooms
Move the gateway to a central, open spot or add Pods. See fixing a weak Wi-Fi signal for more tips.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Cox router login address?
Cox Panoramic Wifi gateways use 192.168.0.1 for the local admin tool. The username is admin and the default password on an uncustomized gateway is password, which you are asked to change on first sign-in. Day-to-day Wi-Fi management is done in the Cox app. For more about the address itself, see our 192.168.0.1 guide.
Why can I not change my Wi-Fi password at 192.168.0.1?
On many Panoramic Wifi gateways, Cox manages the Wi-Fi name and password from your account so they stay in sync with the app and with Panoramic Wifi Pods. The local admin tool may show the settings as read-only or point you to the app. Make the change in the Cox app (the successor to the standalone Panoramic Wifi app) or in your account on cox.com.
How do I put a Cox Panoramic gateway in bridge mode?
Panoramic Wifi gateways support bridge mode, which turns off the gateway's routing and Wi-Fi so your own router can take over. Depending on the gateway and firmware, the option is in the local admin tool at 192.168.0.1 or needs to be enabled by Cox support. In bridge mode, app features that depend on the gateway, such as device management and Panoramic Wifi Pods, stop working.
Can I use my own modem with Cox?
Yes. Cox supports customer-owned cable modems from its list of compatible devices. Faster plans need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, and Cox Voice needs a compatible voice-capable modem. If you buy your own modem, you manage Wi-Fi with your own router or mesh system instead of the Cox app. Background on the two roles is in modem vs router.
I forgot the Cox admin password. What now?
The only way to recover the local admin tool password is a factory reset: hold the recessed Reset button on the gateway for about 30 seconds. The admin tool goes back to admin / password. Wi-Fi settings saved in your Cox account are generally restored by the app once the gateway is back online, but local settings such as port forwards or bridge mode are lost.
What is the CoxWiFi network?
CoxWiFi is Cox's public hotspot network, available to eligible Cox Internet customers in many locations. It is separate from your home network and is not configured from your gateway's admin tool.
