Frequently asked questions

What is the default Tenda router password?

Most current Tenda routers have no login password out of the box. The first visit to tendawifi.com opens a quick setup where you choose the internet connection type, Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi password, and set a login password (many models offer to reuse the Wi-Fi password). Older Tenda N-series routers used admin / admin. If you set a login password and forgot it, you will need to reset the router.

Why does tendawifi.com not open?

tendawifi.com is answered by the Tenda router itself, so it only works while your device is connected to it. Cellular data, a VPN, Android Private DNS or a custom DNS server will send the request to the public internet instead. Connect to the Tenda network and use 192.168.0.1. If your Tenda sits behind an ISP gateway that also uses 192.168.0.1, the Tenda may change its own address; check the "Default Gateway" on your device.

How do I set up a Tenda Nova mesh system?

Nova mesh units are set up with the Tenda WiFi app. Connect the main node to your modem or ISP gateway with Ethernet, power it on, open the app and follow the prompts to set the network name and password. Most Nova kits come pre-paired, so the other nodes join automatically once powered on; if one does not, add it from the app. The app also shows each node’s connection quality so you can adjust placement.

Can a Tenda router replace my ISP equipment?

Tenda routers are routers only. You still need your cable modem, fiber ONT or ISP gateway. With a standalone modem, plug the Tenda’s WAN port into it and use dynamic IP (DHCP), which is what most US cable and fiber services use. With an ISP combo gateway, either enable bridge or passthrough mode on the gateway or set the Tenda to AP mode to avoid double NAT. See modem vs. router for the difference.
